Fall Parties are around the corner. Parties will be held in the gym. PTA is planning some fun activities and games! There will also be an inflatable so make sure that STUDENTS HAVE SOCKS to play on the inflatable. Parents are welcome to volunteer at their student’s party. Please remember safety, siblings will not be allowed to attend parties.

LFE PTA’s 2nd Parents Hot Topic, LFE Kids Take Charge!
Please join us for a FREE instructor led session on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, 2018, 9:00 am to 11:15 am at LFE focusing on Anti-Bullying and Stranger Awareness. Session 1 on Antibullying & Session 2 no Stranger Awareness.
Children will be taught by Master Brian Davidson and Mr. Marcus Munoz of Kids 2 Leaders. All children who participate will be offered 2 FREE weeks of martial arts training at their Lee’s Summit facility!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on MLK Day to serve their neighbors and communities. This is the 4th year Longview Farm Elementary will be participating in a MLK Day of Service. We are looking for parents and staff to volunteer with their student(s) on Monday, January 15, 2018. We have two ways to help from home this year! Come prepared to work & wear your LFE gear!
Harvester’s – Harvester’s is a regional food bank serving NW Missouri & NE Kansas. Harvester’s provides food & related household items to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies. Harvester’s feed 141,000 people a month. They are located at 3801 Topping Ave, KC 64129. Service project includes, but not limited to sorting, lifting, bagging & boxing food for 90 minutes and 30 mins of learning activity. Please wear closed toed shoes & dress in layers. Available for youth 8 years & older. No more than 5 children per every adult & No younger siblings allowed. If you would like to do more, please bring canned & box food donations.
Sweet Cases – THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED – NEW! Everyday 1200 kids enter foster care. Most get a trash bag to move their items from home to home. Together We Rise helps kids to have a more positive experience. For $25 donation per bag, you will get to decorate and stuff your bag with items provided by the $25 donation. Bags will be given to local foster care programs to be used in our community! Please follow this link https://www.togetherwerise.org/fundraise/lfeMLKDay2018 to PAY for the number of bags you would like to decorate then donate. Please also sign up on the sign-up genius. Payment must be made prior to December 19th. Join us in the art room on January 15th to decorate (all items provided for you) to stuff the bags or this can be done at home! Available for adults & students Kindergarten – 6th graders. YES, younger siblings may attend! Contact Sara or Jalonna to arrange delivery of your bag if you cannot attend on January 15th. Paint makers will be needed if you do this project at home.
Blair’s Foster Socks – NEW! Volunteers will work at the warehouse for Blair’s Foster Socks which is a non-profit organization supporting foster families and children in distressed situations. Read more about their organization at http://www.blairsfostersocks.org/. This event will be from 9-10:30 am at 121 E Lexington Ave, Independence MO 64050. Enter on the side of the building. Donations are welcomed! Available for adults & students of Kindergarten – 6th graders. No younger siblings are allowed.
Wayside Waifs – Wayside Waifs is charitable animal shelter whose purpose is to place adoptable companion animals in responsible homes. Wayside is the largest pet adoption center in Kansas City, placing over 5,400 animals each year in loving forever homes. We have two shifts available at 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas City, 64137. Project will start with tour of facility and service project will include, but not limited to, building pet enrichment projects, sorting laundry, organizing storage area or making pet toys. Available for adults & students of 3rd – 6th graders. No younger siblings are allowed. If you would like to do more, Wayside Waifs has a list of donations needed on their website at all time such as pet food, cleaning and office supplies, etc.
John Knox Village – JKV is a retirement center located at 600 NW Pryor Road (meet in main lobby to start). Service project will include crafts, games & chats with the residents. Available for adults & students of Kindergarten – 6th graders. No younger siblings are allowed.
No-Sew Blanket Making – All Ages & no sewing experience needed! Join us in the Music Room at LFE to make no-sew blankets which will be given to Children’s Mercy Hospital and Jefferson Health Care nursing home. Each family can make as many as they would like! Bring two pieces of coordinating fleece fabric (pre-washed) with the following measurements: For child size – each piece should measure 1.5 years (3 yards total of fleece). For teen size – each piece should measure 2 yards (4 yards total of fleece). Don’t forget your scissors! No sewing experience needed! Available for adults & students Kindergarten – 6th graders. YES, younger siblings may attend! All fleece must be new & odor free.
Card Making Station at LFE – All ages! Join us in the Art Room at LFE to create cards for sick children, Veterans & active military troops. We have all the supplies, we just need YOU! Available for adults & students Kindergarten – 6th graders. YES, younger siblings may attend! Please include total number of adults & children in your RSVP as we have limited space.

Your family can also create your Sweet Cases at home. Follow the link above to purchase the case(s) & we will arrange deliver & pick-up to your house! You will need your own fabric markers at home to complete this project. THIS EVENT NOW CLOSED
